In reference to your post, a perpetual license can last as long as you want it to - there are still places using XSI 7 (I am a Softimage user myself). ![]() However, as you stated, if for some reason they deicide to go only rental and everyone would have to rent, with my perpetual license migrating over to rental, then it would be to a different software for my needs…I do not care for rental. So far Autodesk has no plans to terminate Perpetual licenses (if you already have one, or are going to get one before the deadline) which is good. Hi, sorry, I do not understand what you mean, and I might just be misreading what you wrote. For a company like Autodesk, who have a lot of trouble sitting still, that’s a long time to not fiddle with things. A perpetual license runs at about 2.5 years worth of subscription, though when you include the Maintenance cost itself it may be closer to 4 years. The elephant in the room there is how long Autodesk keep Maintenance options alive. While I do still use AD software, I only sub for the months I have a job on that requires Max or Maya (which is a lot less these days than it used to be). Of course I do almost everything in Houdini these days, which also has the added benefit of being able to open my old Apprentice files. Bummer to not have the original project setup, but it’s a bigger bummer to have to pay half a day’s pay just so you can see if X file has what you’re looking for inside it. They got their money for that, it’s mine now.Īll it means is that I now export everything I think is reference geo to FBX. The only time I ever access old files is if I’m going to make money from them - in those situations, you don’t want to be trapped into giving money to X company just because you used their software 2 years ago. yesterday, but rather opening files some time down the road. Well it’s not so much being caught out after your sub has ended i.e. I guess this would solve most “I need to access my files, but I don´t want to pay ransom money to AD”. That would mean that you could still open a project and make some small change or export a model or what ever you want after your subscription has ended. Can´t they just add something like a “save 30 times limit” after your subscription has ended.
